How we verify every partner
One company per trade, and each one has to clear the same checks before it can hold a category. This is the list.
1. State license or registration, where Oklahoma requires one
We pull the record from the Oklahoma Construction Industries Board and confirm it is active and in the business name that will appear on your contract.
| Trade | Oklahoma requirement | What we check |
|---|---|---|
| Roofing | CIB roofing contractor registration (59 O.S. §1151.1 et seq.); number must appear on contracts and ads | Active registration, matching business name, liability insurance on file |
| HVAC | CIB mechanical contractor license; EPA 608 for refrigerant technicians | Active license, permit history, technician certifications |
| Plumbing / Electrical (inside remodels) | CIB plumbing / electrical contractor license | Licensed sub on any rough-in |
| Locksmith | Oklahoma Department of Labor company and technician licenses (Alarm, Locksmith and Fire Sprinkler Industry Act, 59 O.S. §1800.1 et seq.) | Active company license, licensed technicians, insurance |
| Lawn mowing / clean-up | No state license for mowing; ODAFF applicator license for weed control or fertilizer | Insurance, applicator license when chemicals are applied, written pricing |
| Real estate agent (sell with an agent) | Oklahoma Real Estate Commission sales associate or broker license; must work under a licensed broker | Active license in the agent's name, brokerage affiliation, errors-and-omissions coverage, closed local sales |
| Attorney (estate planning and probate) | Active membership in the Oklahoma Bar Association under the Oklahoma Supreme Court | Good standing in the public OBA directory, Oklahoma office, written fee agreement. This listing is paid advertising at a flat rate; we give no legal advice and receive nothing per inquiry |
| Estate cleanouts and junk removal | No state license; disposal must go to a DEQ-permitted landfill or transfer station | Insurance, dump tickets and donation receipts, written flat-rate pricing from photos, background-checked crew |
| Decks, painting, cleaning, fence, gutters, coatings, shelters, windows and doors, kitchen and bath remodels | No state license (licensed plumbing/electrical subs inside remodels) | Insurance, permits pulled, references, product certifications |
2. Insurance verified with the carrier
A certificate of insurance is a piece of paper; we call the agent on it. General liability is required for every partner. Workers' compensation or a valid Oklahoma exemption is required for any trade that puts a crew on your property.
3. Local track record
A real Tulsa-metro address, years in business here, permitted jobs we can see in city records, and references we actually call. Storm chasers and lead-gen shell companies do not clear this step.
4. Standards to keep the category
- Respond to every request within one business day
- Written quotes that spell out scope, products and warranty
- Permits pulled whenever the city requires one
- No pressure sales and no "today only" pricing
- Ownership relationships with this site disclosed on the listing
5. The Verified Partner badge
Once a partner is live, they may place our Verified Partner badge on their own website. It links back to their category page on this site so a homeowner can confirm the listing in one click. Partners never link to each other through the badge, and we do not display it for pending partners. Partners: get your badge and embed code on the badge page.
Frequently asked questions
Which home-service trades are licensed in Oklahoma?
Electrical, plumbing and mechanical (HVAC) contractors must hold a Construction Industries Board license. Roofing contractors must register with the CIB under the Roofing Contractor Registration Act. Home inspectors are licensed separately, locksmiths are licensed by the Oklahoma Department of Labor, real estate agents by the Oklahoma Real Estate Commission, and attorneys through the Oklahoma Bar Association. Painters, deck and fence builders, cleaners, cleanout crews, remodelers, lawn crews, window installers, gutter and coating installers are not state-licensed; for them, insurance, permits and references are the verification.
What does the Verified Partner badge on a contractor's website mean?
Live partners may display our Verified Partner badge on their own website. The badge links back to the partner's category page here, so you can click it and confirm the listing is current and the verification above still stands. A badge that links anywhere else, or a company not listed on this site, is not our partner.
How do I look up a contractor myself?
Use the license search on the Oklahoma Construction Industries Board website (ok.gov/cib). Roofing registrations, mechanical, plumbing and electrical licenses are all searchable by name or number. Ask for the insurance certificate directly from the contractor and call the agent listed on it.
Do you charge homeowners?
No. Partners pay to hold their category. Homeowners never pay us, and partners quote you directly with no markup from us.
What if a partner does bad work?
Tell us. Partners keep their category only while they answer quickly, quote in writing, pull permits and stand behind the work. We remove partners who do not.
